Poppy Print with frame measures approximately 33"W x 20-3/4"H. - Vintage frame appears to be the original and has been painted some time in the past. Some paint is on glass and can bee seen in photos. - Protective paper backing that was on the backside is gone. The original cardboard and nails are still in place as is the original hanging wire. Some of the angled corner pieces are loose. Print has a couple of dark spots that can be seen in photo. Frame has a couple of dings that also can be seen in photos. Frame and print both show their age and boast a certain amount of patina. The overall condition of this rare antique art is excellent.
R. Atkinson Fox was most noted for his work as a calendar artist in the early 1900's but he also did this floral print as well. This particular version of the print is seldom seen and is titled Poppies.
Poppies are often associated Flanders Fields, a generic name of the World War I battlefields in the medieval County of Flanders.
"In Flanders Fields" is a war poem written during the First World War by Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae on May 3, 1915.
